8.000 Homes Pledge to Reduce Energy This Summer
Published May 09, 2008
8,000 homes and businesses - and counting - have signed up for a new program to reduce peak energy demand over the summer.
Public Service Co. of New Mexico offered the program that will shut of air conditioners, lighting and other electricity for short periods when electric demands peak. Anyone can sign up for the program. Shut downs are expected to be short. The utility company expects the measure will offset 30 megawatts of power this year - or 57 percent of the company’s projections for growth in demand.
