If you are blue, be bright blue.
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico is constructing a sparkling new $28 million building that will open in late 2006 or early 2007.
The four-story structure, off Interstate 25 near Balloon Fiesta Parkway in Albuquerque, will house up to 500 employees.
“Our employees are currently housed in two aging buildings that are located quite a distance from one another, and neither of those buildings is worth refurbishing,” says Lydia Ashanin, BCBSNM public affairs manager.
“We are a growing organization that really needs more space, and the new facility will allow us to maximize efficiency and better utilize modern technology,” she adds. “Plus, it’ll be nice having all our employees under one roof.”
BCBSNM also has a customer service building on Alexander Boulevard that will continue to operate when the new building opens.
“We really wanted the new facility to be in a vital and vibrant location in Albuquerque, so we decided upon north I-25 near Arizona Tile and all the other business growth that is occurring out there,” Ashanin says.
Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Mexico, which has provided health insurance to New Mexicans for more than 65 years, has a customer base that includes large employers, small employers, individuals, and the federal and state government.
“Other insurers have come and gone, but BCBSNM has deep roots and is here to stay,” says President Liz Watrin. “This building is more than a necessary business investment. It is a symbol of our commitment to being a dynamic partner in addressing the health care and insurance needs of New Mexicans.”
